A mini guide with many pictures to celebrate 40 years of Project Gutenberg (4 July 1971 - 4 July 2011). Founded by Michael Hart on 4 July 1971, Project Gutenberg was a visionary project to create free electronic versions of literary works from public domain, and to disseminate them worldwide through the internet. In the 16th century, Johannes Gutenberg allowed anyone to have printed books for a "small" cost (when compared to the cost of manuscripts). In the 21st century, Project Gutenberg allows anyone to have a digital library at no cost, that can be stored on a USB drive and duplicated as much as needed. This mini guide is dedicated to Project Gutenberg volunteers and Distributed Proofreaders volunteers worldwide.
